Abstract

The nonlinear phenomena that occur in the laser rate equations with periodic pump modulation are studied numerically. The gross bifurcation structure of the system covering a large range of the parameters can be classified through the concept of nonlinear resonances and torsion numbers, which have already been used to great advantage in other nonlinear oscillatory systems. The pump-modulated laser rate equations are closely related to the Toda oscillator.
