Abstract

Multimode macroscopic states consisting of a superposition of spin coherent states that are generated in a trapped ion system are introduced. The role of various parameters that control the entanglement of the system are exposed, and their effects are quantified. In particular, it is shown that the generated states exhibit different entanglement characteristics for odd and even 2nj, where j is the spin of each mode and n is the number of modes.
