Abstract
A photonic-crystal fiber (PCF) is used to demonstrate a fiber-optic format of efficient third-harmonic generation through a parametric four-wave mixing, involving radiation of a femtosecond Cr:forsterite laser and its second-harmonic output . The frequency of the fiber output is tuned within the range of wavelengths from by changing the peak power of the input laser pulses through cross-phase-modulation-induced instability. The field is shown to play a significant role in supercontinuum generation in a PCF, substantially enhancing the short-wavelength part of the supercontinuum spectrum.
