Weak transverse localization of light scattered incoherently from a one-dimensional random metal surface

Abstract

We consider the incoherent scattering of light from a one-dimensional, random, metal surface when the plane of incidence is parallel to the generators of the surface and perpendicular to the mean surface. The incoherent component of the scattered light is then confined to a conical region whose axis of rotation is the intersection of the plane of incidence with the mean surface. Scattering anomalies associated with weak localization are observed in both copolarized and cross-polarized scattering. Results are presented for the scattering of visible light from both silver and gold surfaces.
